What is an ONT?

Optical network terminal (ONT) plays a crucial role in bringing fiber optic internet to the home via the internet service provider. This article provides information about ONT.

What is an ONT?
ONT also known as the optical modem is a device that communicates directly with an internet service provider (ISP) to provide a fiber-optic internet connection in the home or office. It offers high-speed internet access, IPTV, voice, and Wi-Fi services.

How Does ONT Work?
The ONT converts fiber optic signals into copper and Ethernet wiring for use by the router. ONT is connected to the terminal point (TP) via fiber optic cable. A TP is a wall-mounted box where the fiber optic cable terminates in the home or office.  An Ethernet cable is used to connect the ONT to the router.
