What is Optical Distribution Frame?

Date: 2023-12-12 14:48:00

There has been an increase in the deployment of fiber optics due to the increasing demand for high-speed data rates. Because of the continuous growth in fiber optic installation, it has become more difficult to manage optical transmission networks. In installing fiber optic cables, many factors should be considered such as flexibility, future viability, cost of deployment, and management. To successfully handle a huge fiber optics project, which is less expensive and has higher flexibility, an optical distribution frame (ODF) is needed to connect and organize fiber optic cable. This article will share some knowledge about ODF.

\

What is Optical Distribution Frame?
An ODF is a floor stand large-core optical fiber distribution frame used in the central room. An ODF consists of a fiber optic cable entry, a grounding unit, an optical fiber terminating unit, an optical fiber connecting, a distribution unit, optical fiber storage unit, fiber optic connectors, adapters, and related accessories. Each unit may be independent or integrated into one. There is a vertical cable channel in the rack, and fiber optic connectors can quickly and conveniently adjust the number of cores in the optical cable and change the route sequence of the optical transmission system. An ODF is available in 504/576/720, etc cores.

\

Types of ODF
An ODF is divided into two types: one is loaded with 12-core integrated fiber optic splice trays (HA), and the other is loaded with ODF units (distribution sub-frame) (HD).

\

Features and Benefits
An ODF provides a 19'' standard structure, high-density, high-capacity, easy management, easy installation and deployment, future-proof, low-cost, and reliable fiber optic protection, flexible frame fixing, and grounding devices.

Applications
An ODF is used in FTTH access networks, telecommunication networks, CATV networks, local area networks (LAN), data centers, etc.

\

Conclusion
In conclusion, an ODF is used for fiber optic cable fixation, protection, termination, patching, etc. It can reduce the cost and improve the reliability and flexibility of the fiber optic network.
