4 Key Things You Should Know About PM Filter WDM

Date: 2025-02-26 15:46:29

PM (Polarization Maintaining) filter WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is a crucial solution for fiber optic amplifiers, fiber optic lasers, high-speed communication systems, and fiber optic instrumentation applications. It multiplexes PM signals and maintains the output polarization with a high extinction ratio using thin-film filter (TFF) technology. All input and output fibers are polarization-maintained. In addition, it provides a wide pass band, low insertion loss, high reliability, and return loss in a compact size. Follow this article to learn more about PM filter WDM.

What is a PM Filter WDM?
PM filter WDM (or PM FWDM) is a passive micro-optic device that uses environmentally stable TFF technology to provide exceptional band-pass performance, WDM, and maintain signal polarization with a high extinction ratio, which is ideal for high-speed WDM network systems. It is used to multiplex other wavelengths, including 980/1030 nm (pulsed laser applications) and 1064/1550 nm (Erbium-Ytterbium pumping), low power (300 mW, 500 mW) and high power ( up to 20W) handling are available. Furthermore, it is provided with a PM isolator integrated with the same package and is available without or with connectors, and the connector key is aligned to the slow axis.

How Does a PM Filter WDM Work?
PM filter WDM employs TFF technology. It combines or separates light at different wavelengths in a wide wavelength range with polarization maintenance and Panda PM fiber. PM filter WDM can expand the capacity of a single fiber to achieve bidirectional communication so that widely used in optical network upgrades and expansion, etc. In addition, the PM filters WDM system uses a multiplexer at the transmitter to combine several wavelengths, each one carrying a different signal, and a demultiplexer at the receiver to split them apart.

Features and Benefits
PM filter WDM provides the following features and benefits:
1. Low insertion loss, polarization-dependent loss, and cost
2. High channel isolation and wide pass band
3. High extinction ratio and return loss
4. High reliability and stability
5. High power handling and compact size
6. Polarization maintenance and epoxy-free on the optical path
7. Various connectors are available  LC/SC/FC/ST, UPC/APC, FC/UPC, FC/APC
8. Center wavelength available 980/1030, 980/1064, 980/1550, 1064/1550, 1310/1550, 1480/1550, 2000/1570nm

Applications
PM filter WDM is used in fiber lasers, fiber optic sensing, Raman amplifiers, fiber optic instruments, EDFA, telecommunication networks, WDM/CWDM/DWDM network systems, coherent systems, high-speed communication systems, CATV, FTTx, PON, add / drop channels, broadband networks, etc.
